At Wenatchee Rescue Mission, We believe in being the hands and feet of Jesus. We aim to revolutionize how we assist those experiencing homelessness. Our primary focus is to make a positive impact on our community. With the help of our dedicated staff and volunteers, we strive to bring about change. By offering prayer, aid, optimism, and opportunities, we work towards creating practical solutions that have a lasting impact on the lives of all who face homelessness and poverty in Wenatchee.
In 1984, Charles Hutchins (Hutch) came to Wenatchee to visit relatives. He befriended a homeless person and found no homeless shelters in the area. So, Hutch found an old abandoned hotel in south Wenatchee, signed a 25 - year lease on it, and moved into the back room with plans to renovate it into a homeless shelter. This was in November
This was in November, and with the winter approaching, people living by the river, underneath bridges, and in old cars heard about Hutch's hotel and quickly moved in.
Wenatchee Rescue Mission provides assistance and support that empowers individuals to become self-sufficient, rather than simply giving them resources or a meal without helping them develop the skills and means to sustain themselves in the future.
We do this by being the hands and feet of Jesus. We meet people where they are and design a plan that fits the needs of the individual.
Over seventy nine thousand nights of sleep a year.
Eighty-two thousand meals are served per year.
Over forty-seven thousand showers and fifteen thousand articles of clothing are given each year.
Although the exact definition of “low-barrier” varies greatly depending on who you ask, it essentially means that the requirements for entry are limited or minimal. With a focus on “harm reduction,” low-barrier shelters encourage homeless individuals to seek resources by eliminating those obstacles.
“The overall thought process is to get as many people off the streets as possible,” said Scott Johnson Executive Director of Wenatchee Rescue Mission. “ Our doors are open , we hold our arms out and everyone is welcome in Gods family". We’ve tried to remove every reason that might keep someone from coming to the shelter: no identification required, pets are welcome, we don’t do background checks, sobriety is not a requirement.”
Our team uses God's love to show people they are visible and cared for. Three hundred people were helped with our street outreach over the past year. Seventy have found shelter. We rely on our Volunteers to help us reach people in our community.
Wenatchee Rescue Mission is responding to the needs of Single Women. For the first time in mission history, we plan to open a 20-bed women's shelter.
Forty-three tiny shelters are now open! We are dedicated to breaking down all barriers!
We need your help! We are answering the call to help women in crisis. Our new single women's shelter is opening soon. Finishing the much-needed dorm will take about $5000. Please donate today to help bring them home to the life they deserve!
